Not So Fast & Vancouver Farmers Markets are Sending Families to Market
May 20, 2013 | Vancouver, British Columbia
Announcing Vancouver’s 1st Token Drive!
Who loves local food? WE DO! That’s why we’re sending families to market, and we need your help!
In partnership with the VFM Society, Not So Fast is sending families to market, by offering those in need easily redeemable market tokens (a program provided by the Vancouver Farmers Markets). Available for purchase in $5 increments, 100% of each token purchased goes towards supporting families in need, while supporting local farmers & food producers. By creating support for families that encourages empowered choices, we see a food secure future where all will have equal access and knowledge of sound nutrition and local food solutions.
How great is that?
Here’s how it works:
On Saturday May 31st, come celebrate the official launch of the Farmers Market Season, and visit either Trout Lake Market or the West End Market to purchase market tokens for you and a family in need!
Donate $5, $10, $20 or $100 – we’ll compile your generous donations into allotments of $20, and send families* in your community to market free of charge. Can’t make it to the market in person? Donate easily here.
*NSF works closely with the families of the Strathcona Community Center in Vancouver’s DTES to send good folks to market who otherwise wouldn’t be able to.
Ever wondered what it’s like to live with food insecurity everyday? Well the folks at NSF have, and have made it their mission to encourage people the world over to come together to help relieve hunger related issues, both here at home and around the world. Officially launched in September 2013, Not So Fast’s mission is to encourage communities, and our world, to consume less & give more. NSF is a registered not-for-profit organization aimed at encouraging new ways of thinking about the food we consume, as well as using donated funds to help feed families and those in need in our community. Not So Fast works with the local community to provide cooking education, access to local foods, and general hunger relief to those struggling with poverty in our society. Past events include the popular “1st ever Kale Drive” which resulted in over 2500 DTES meals being fortified with kale provided from people’s gardens. All food provided comes from ethical sources and is geared towards health & accessibility.
